Urschel Laboratories Mural
About two years ago, I was approached by Rick Urschel, a long-time collector of my work and CEO of Urschel Laboratories, about creating a mural in their new world headquarters located near Valparaiso, Indiana. After many discussions and progress on the new headquarters, I'll officially begin creating a 10x40' mural featuring a historical timeline of their company this week. I'm extremely honored and humbled to have this opportunity and am excited for a new challenge in my artistic career. Two years ago, when I was approached with this project, I wasn't overly familiar with Urschel's business. But after months of preparation, I've learned much about this fascinating and innovative company. Urschel Laboratories was founded more than 100 years ago with it's first patent issued in 1908. Throughout its history, Urschel has remained a family-owned business, has brought hundreds of jobs to Indiana and has revolutionized the food processing industry.
For the past several months, I've devoted an entire wall in my studio to documenting Urschel's history while planning the content and composition of this mural. And after months of behind the scenes work, I officially kick off the project today. The mural will live on a single 10x40' piece of canvas. Local muralist and one of my mentor's Chris Cassell and I begin priming the canvas today.
On Thursday, I'll drive up to Valparaiso to install the canvas in its permanent location. I'll be living in Valparaiso for several months as I complete the piece. This project will be my main priority for the next few months, so you'll see little new work from me. I'll be documenting the mural's progress as I go, and will release the footage after the big reveal to Rick Urschel and the entire Urschel team in the months to come.
I'm incredibly excited to embark on the newest adventure in my career! Thank you all for the incredible support in 2014 and cheers to a busy and rewarding 2015!
